We won a better internet
April 6, 2022
In April 2022, the EU reached an agreement on a new law to protect our rights online. The new law, the Digital Services Act (DSA) brings us one step forward in the fight for a better, safer internet.
Christel Schaldemose MEP, the European Parliament’s negotiator on the DSA, and EU Commissioners
It is the world’s most ambitious attempt to stop the damage inflicted on people by big tech companies. This law will help end some of the worst advertising practices of big tech platforms. It will also help stop the amplification of disinformation and hate speech, the abuse of our personal data and more.
This new law was unthinkable just a few years ago.
In the future, we’ll need to go even further to achieve profound change online and bring power back to the people. The DSA is a promising start. It’s the result of the work of millions of people and dozens of civil society organisations across Europe, including our community.
