To Mr Nigel Farage, Member of the European Parliament

Petition

You declared that you earn more than 10,000 euro a month in addition to your salary as a Member of the European Parliament. The Parliament’s Code of Conduct requires you to be transparent – so why haven’t you disclosed where this “side-job” money comes from?

We have a right to know whose interests are served by our elected representatives in the Parliament. Tell us who pays you and how much – declare your financial interests now!

Why is this important?

Do we know who really pays the bills of the politicians we elect to serve us? And if we don’t, how can we know whose interests they really serve?

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) get a parliamentary salary, but many of them also hold very lucrative side jobs, and earn thousands on the side. For some, like Nigel Farage, those bring in more than 10,000 euro each month!

As citizens, we have a right to know where this money comes from, who bankrolls our representatives and whose interests are really being represented. That’s why the European Parliament (EP) has strict rules on financial transparency. But it looks like Mr Farage might see himself above that law! He’s had 6 months to tell the public where his “side-job” money comes from, he earns. That deadline has just passed and he remains silent.

What is Mr Farage hiding? Let’s find out!

Here's what you can do:

The more of us publicly call him out on his rule-breaking, the more pressure he will feel, and the more his financial conduct will be scrutinised by his voters - and the EP’s Presidium, who can make him pay for ignoring the law.

According to the European Parliament’s Code of Conduct for Members, each MEP who receives additional income must provide a detailed declaration of financial interests.

That’s how we - the public - can know who pays the politicians we elect to represent our interests, how much, and for what kind of service. The obligatory declarations are an important mechanism to control potential conflicts of interest, and a way for us to keep our politicians in check. They are not to be shrugged off or ignored!

Most MEPs understand that – only three of 751 members have failed to report their income on time. One of them is Nigel Farage, the self-proclaimed critic of the EU’s lack of transparency. Doesn’t it make you wonder, what’s hiding under the his “additional income in excess of 10,000 euro per month”? How much exactly does he earn, and doing what? So let’s ask – join our campaign and call on Farage to tell us where his money comes from!
