My friend Daniel and I heard about a parish in Munich that received large amounts of donations, but had no means of transport to Ukraine. So we started to think: how could we help? We had this simple idea - collect some money from friends, rent a pickup truck and bring at least the most important medical goods to the Polish-Ukrainian border. Daniel showed me impressively what it means to have a conviction and to actually act on it. .

On the spur of the moment we asked friends for donations, rented a small truck and organised a trip to the Polish-Ukrainian border. I thought the idea was great and went along without further ado - 1200 km are much easier to manage with two drivers. We loaded 6 pallets of relief supplies, mainly medicines, but also sleeping bags, food and other things...and drove toward Poland. On the way we saw many other aid transports ( 4 minibuses from Portugal!) and repeatedly received expressions of solidarity from other drivers by flashing their lights or waving at us.

Late at night, about 2:30 am, we arrived at the camp in Przemyśl, Poland - about 10 km from the Ukrainian border and 100 km from Lviv. Despite the late hour, there were still people on their feet who instructed us and helped with unloading. Next morning, two large trucks arrived to take the relief supplies to Kyiv.

Our friends have already donated heavily - but the response to a single email I sent to colleagues was overwhelming. Our hope was to collect a few hundred euros so that we could have fuel for one small truck. But thanks to numerous and sometimes breathtakingly generous contributions, we actually raised €10,000 together. Instead of just one trip, we were able to organise six trips so far. Insane! And we are already planning further actions.
