Call for board members

Come on Board to Change Europe

WeMove Europe is a citizens’ movement, campaigning for a better Europe, for a European Union committed to social and economic justice, environmental sustainability and citizen-led democracy. We are people from all walks of life who call Europe our home, whether we were born in Europe or elsewhere. (From our mission statement).

About us

We are a young and dynamic European online campaigning organisation, created in the spirit of the amazing work done by our friends at Campact.de in Germany and 38Degrees.org.uk in the UK. We counter the crisis of European democracy with creative online campaigning. Launched in September 2015, we already connect more than 810.000 people all over Europe who struggle together for progressive change. We are focused on continuing our rapid growth in political and geographical scope, members and staff. - More on http://wemove.eu/wemove.pdf.

The role of the Board

The board is the supreme governance body of Wemove. The Board advises, supervises and controls the management of WeMove Europe and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by executive director Oliver Moldenhauer, the Board ensures a high level of accountability, transparency, and political integrity within the management of the organisation.

We currently have two board members (Blanche Shackleton and Christoph Bautz cf. http://wemove.eu/team). We are currently seeking two additional candidates towards  expanding the board to 5-7 members.

The Board will be gender balanced, plus or minus one board member. We also strive for regional and cultural diversity in the board.

About your role

You are a strategic political thinker and an effective agent for political change. You are passionate and committed to our values. We are especially looking for a board member with detailed knowledge of EU institutions and an insight into how the “Brussels bubble” works. For underlining the pan-european character of WeMove we are looking for board members from South and Eastern Europe in this round. We already have board members from Germany and the UK, so unfortunately we are not looking for candidates from those countries.

You

  • are committed to our political values as laid out in the mission statement

  • have experience and understanding of EU institutions and the “Brussels bubble”

  • have a broader understanding of the political context in more than one European country

  • appreciate the MoveOn/Campact/38Degrees model and its inherent need for speed in online campaigning

  • can dedicate yourself to the strategic rather than operational aspects of WeMove Europe.

  • have experience in member-based, mass-mobilization activities.

  • are well-respected in the progressive NGO/political movement.

  • are proficient in English written and spoken communication (the working language of the board).

Additionally, the following skills are a plus:

  • Fundraising

  • Finances

  • Management

  • other European languages

Workload & remuneration

Board members meet quarterly (twice a year in person, twice via video conference). Moreover, board members must invest preparation time prior to each meeting. Meetings are well-prepared and structured by the executive director and the team.

Wemove will remunerate your time investment with 200 Euro / day compensation. Overnight meetings will be compensated with 400 Euro. An involvement from 2 hours to half a day (i.e. for telephone conferences) will receive 100 Euros compensation. Wemove will pay for travel costs and other Wemove related expenses.

Recruitment process

Günter Metzges-Diez, former ED of Campact and former board member of Wemove, will be organizing the recruitment of the three outstanding board members. If you are interested, or if you might know people who might be a good fit, please get in touch (wemove-board@metzges.de).

The recruitment process contains four steps:

  • Step 1: Send your CV and contact details to Günter. If suitable, he will arrange with you an initial interview via phone or skype.

  • Step 2: You will be interviewed by Oliver Moldenhauer, the executive director, via Skype or face-2-face.

  • Step 3: You will be invited to meet with Blanche, Christoph, Oliver and Günter via Skype

  • Step 4: You will begin a two meeting-probation as a board member. If no other board-member objects, you will become a full board-member thereafter.

It will be great to have you on board. I look forward to meeting you.

Best regards

Günter (wemove-board@metzges.de)
