This 2017 International Women’s Day, millions of people across the globe marched and we used the momentum to launch a call to action, powered by the outrage and solidarity of thousands of us. With our partners in a European coalition, we are putting violence against women and girls back on the EU’s political agenda with a bang!
We are demanding that EU leaders take a stand for our human rights, and urgently ratify and implement the international convention to fight violence against women. With the EU’s ratification, the convention will grant a common standard of protection to Europe’s women in all member states - even those which refuse to fight violence nationally. The Council of the EU is the last bottleneck to making that happen, and they are stalling: they don’t think women’s rights are worth the trouble of intense negotiations.
