Alan Kurdi, his mother and brother didn’t have to drown. With safe and legal ways for people fleeing war to ask for our protection, they wouldn’t have boarded the flimsy boat on a stormy night. They suffer because Europe forgot its promise to always stand for a free, open, welcoming community who cares for every person within its borders.
The EU is in crisis and its response to the plight of the refugees is just one of many symptoms. We know that how we address migration will define the future of our Union, remake or break our foundations. And we - Europe’s citizens - can no longer stand back and let it happen.
We want to use the best tool we have - the European Citizens’ Initiative - to reach people across Europe and change the conversation.
